Does the client have an obligation to be here?

When you create a new Client case, we ask the question Does this client have an obligation to be here?

There is a difference between the client who is sent to a budgeting service and the client who seeks support from a Financial Mentor of their own choosing.

Clients that are referred from another organisation or agency are not always there for themselves, but for the agency that referred them. This client may have been referred by Work and Income or a creditor to complete a budget, and once they have their budget, you’ll likely never see them again.

Clients who choose to engage with a Financial Mentor are generally more invested in the outcome of the activity. The are more likely to continue their engagement with your until they feel they’ve reached the natural end of their case.

One measure of success in Financial Mentoring is being able to keep a client who is seeing you out of obligation engaging with your service.

If a client case answers yes to the question Does this client have an obligation to be here? and continues to engage for more than three sessions, that is a success!
