Presenting amount field explained

The presenting debt is the original amount of a debt the client presents with before you begin helping them reduce the debt.

When adding a debt item, you’re presented with a field labelled Presenting amount. This is the amount of debt your client owes on this debt right now. This number will be used later when you close this client's case so you can work out how much of the client's debt has been resolved or retired.

It is not unusual for clients to give a rough presenting amount to start with and return later with evidence showing the actual amount presenting. In these cases, you will need to be able to update the presenting amount.

1 - Navigate to the client’s Debt Schedule.

2 - Click on the More link next to the debt you want to update.

3 - Update the number in the Presenting amount field.

4 - Click on the Update button to save your changes.

Note: Be careful not to accidentally update the Presenting amount when you should be updating the Debt amount, which is the amount of debt remaining as at the current session.

Note: The Debt amount field won't show when you first introduce a debt. That's because in this moment, Presenting amount and Debt amount mean the same thing. The field will appear in subsequent sessions.
